Ongoing Collaboration Requirements

Chart Reviews

 

Collaborative agreement must include chart review items and frequency

100% of charts for controlled substances

10% annually for all other cases

Chart Co-Signatures

Generally no except for certain controlled substances

May be required based on collaborative agreement

NPs may prescribe Schedules III-V drugs without co-signature

Schedule II drugs may be prescribed only under emergency conditions, as defined in the protocol

Meeting requirements

 

Regular quality review meetings required

Frequency specified in collaborative agreement

Annual protocol commonly required

Ongoing collaboration expected

Physician RX requirements

 

Physician delegation required for prescriptive authority

Protocols must include medication categories

Prescriptive authority and DEA information documented

NP’s DEA number is required

Physician’s DEA number is not required

Prescriptions must follow the collaborative protocol

Collaboration Agreement Review

 

100% of relevant records reviewed quarterly

10% of other records reviewed annually

100% review of records involving adverse outcomes within 30 days

Must be available for board review

Protocols registered per board requirements

Physician must meet location/license rules

Written delegation agreement required

Must specify authorized acts and scope

Consultation Requirements

 

Immediate consultation required when needed

Periodic on-site observation by the physician

NP Registration Requirements

 

Georgia RN license in good standing

APRN application with Georgia Board of Nursing

Submit signed collaborative agreement

National certification verification

Application for recognition of prescriptive authority

Physician Registration Requirements


Active Georgia medical license

Must maintain copy of collaborative agreement

Submit collaborative agreement electronically to the Georgia Composite Medical Board

Submit within 30 days of execution; board reviews submission
